Bride's Questions

Please know that when we meet for your trial make-up/consultation you will be asked about your everyday make-up; what are you used to wearing? Have you ever had your make-up professionally done before? And- if you have, was it a positive experience for you and why? We want you to stay in your “comfort zone” while looking and feeling beautiful...

Here is a list of questions that you may consider...

I do a good job applying my own make-up. Why should I hire a professional make-up artist?

There are two main reasons for hiring a make-up artist for your wedding:

The first is that the make-up applied needs to be “camera-ready” . What this means is that the make-up needs to be applied using the correct products and the correct application skills to make sure that your make-up will last and that the pictures will turn out beautifully. The make-up application  needs to be more than nice looking from a personal point of view. It needs to be applied professionally!

The second reason is for the mere fact of being able to sit back and relax on such an important day in your life. The last thing to worry about is if you will apply your make-up correctly. Leave that to the professionals!

How important is a consultation/trial make-up?

Having a consultation/trial make-up is very important for both yourself and your make-up artist. It is always important to make sure that what you are saying is actually being heard by your make-up artist and that she actually follows through with your requests. This is the time to be able to confirm the look you want or to make any changes required to keep you in your “comfort zone”. You should never feel badly when being honest in your feelings of how you look.

When should I do my consultation/trial make-up?

It is best to have your consultation/trial make-up well before your wedding day. This way, things are confirmed with your make-up artist and you know that on the day of your wedding you will be able to sit back and enjoy being pampered without having any qualms of how you are going to look. Don’t worry about having it done too far in advance. Gale takes extremely detailed notes so that you get exactly what you expect for the day of your wedding!

Do I need to bring any of my own make-up to the consultation/trial make-up?

It is not necessary to bring any of your own make-up. However, sometimes a bride does have a favorite product that she wants to have used. For instance, she may have a favorite lipstick color she wants to wear. It is a good idea to bring it to the consultation/trial make-up so that the make-up artist can use it. Often, the color is good, but not very long lasting. Gale will match up the color with one of her purer pigmented long lasting lipsticks and use this and then you can use your product for touch up.

Is it important to bring anything to my consultation/trial make-up?

Sometimes a bride likes to share a picture of her dress so that Gale can get a really good idea of the “style” and “look” of the wedding itself. She can make sure that the make-up application reflects the “feeling” of this event and personal style of the bride herself.

Should someone come with me to my consultation/trial make-up?

It is not necessary to bring anyone with you to your consultation/ trial make-up application. However, it is nice to have a mom, or friend - someone close to you who will give their input and honest opinion about how you really look!

Should I be wearing make-up to my consultation/trial make-up or should I come to the appointment with a clean face?

It is best to come with a clean, non-make-up face so that we can start with a “clean palette”. Don’t worry- you will get the entire time to express just how you do your make-up on an everyday basis and exactly what you are looking for on your wedding day.

Do you need to know how I will be wearing my hair on the day of my wedding?

No, it is not completely necessary to know exactly how you will be wearing your hair. However, it is always nice to have an idea so that it can show the extent of how formal or casual your event will be.

Do you need to see what the bridesmaids’ dresses look like?

Not necessarily- although it is always nice to share!

Do I need to bring anything on the day of my wedding?

Yes, it is always recommended to have a lip liner, lipstick and/or gloss and a pressed powder with you or with your made-of-honor so that you may use it for minor ups throughout your event.

How long will the consultation/trial make-up appointment take?

Plan on spending a solid hour with Gale so that there is plenty of time for the make-up application and to discuss wants and needs of yours.

I have sensitive skin. Should I be concerned with breaking out with your products?

No, although there is always a slight chance with having a reaction with a product, Gale uses only the best products she has used for years that have previously not caused any problems.

I like to get my brows (face, upper lip etc.) waxed. When should I do it before my wedding? May I do it the day before?

Gale NEVER recommends you to have a facial, or waxing too close to the day of your wedding. Even when you may have been going to the same aesthetician for years to have your brows waxed and you’ve never had a problem, there is always the off chance of having bumps from a new type of wax she is using- or getting burned by wax that is just too hot. Why tempt fate? Just try to do it at least 3-4 days to a week before your big event.

I want to get a massage the day of the wedding, is this O.K.?

Yes, it is always nice to be extra pampered and relaxed on your wedding day. However, please make sure that you just rest your head on the length of the massage table and not in the “dough-nut” pillow. The edge of the hole in the pillow can cause an indentation on your forehead or face which may not go away in time for the wedding!

Will I be paying a deposit to reserve your time for my wedding on the day of my consultation/trial make-up appointment?

You are welcome to pay a deposit on the day of the consultation/trial make-up. This will immediately confirm your event into Gale’s calendar. However, if you prefer, you may send your deposit in with a signed copy of your contract/confirmation after you have confirmed the number of make-up applications with Gale.
